Shumaker Williams, P.C. Celebrates 50 Years Serving the Business Community

Although times have changed over the years, Shumaker Williams, P.C. is proud to announce its 50-year milestone of offering legal counsel to the business community.  Having started from modest beginnings in 1964, John K. Shumaker, John G. Williams, and Richard L. Placey created a law practice that would later become an established force in the regional business community.  While Shumaker Williams, P.C. began by serving clients throughout the greater Harrisburg area, it now serves a multitude of business sectors in the mid-Atlantic region through its four strategically located offices.

The three founding partners of Shumaker Williams, P.C. first located the Firm in the Payne-Shoemaker building at Third and Pine Streets in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  In 1971, the Firm moved to a newly-constructed building at Front and Paxton Streets in Harrisburg.  This move proved to be only temporary, as shortly thereafter the building was inundated by the flood waters of Hurricane Agnes in 1972.  Following the complete devastation of that office by the flood, with water reaching the roof of the building, the Firm’s partners temporarily operated from separate offices until their eventual relocation to their current offices at the Pennsylvania Center in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.  The Firm’s resilience paid off as it has grown considerably and now also has offices in York and Conshohocken, Pennsylvania and Towson, Maryland.

In addition to expanding its geographic range, Shumaker Williams, P.C. has significantly broadened its practice areas.  In its early years, Shumaker Williams, P.C. was a general practice firm, offering domestic law, real estate and personal injury related services.  In the mid-1970’s, the Firm began to increase its business related legal offerings and services to senior management of businesses.  Since that time Shumaker Williams, P.C. has grown to offer sophisticated legal services to the banking, restaurant, mortgage industry, real estate, construction, non-profit and insurance sectors, among other industries.  With this background, Shumaker Williams, P.C. is able to specifically tailor itself to the needs of business clients and proudly offers the following practice groups and services:
